Thirteen months after the signing of the contract between the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) and Škoda Group, and eight months after the start of production, the first Škoda ForCity Plus 52T tram for Prague has been manufactured, and it drove for the first time on the test track in Škoda's Pilsen production area today. The tram exterior’s assembly has been completed, its interior is being finished and revived, and the first tests of the vehicle are underway. Two more vehicles are in an advanced stage of assembly. On others, the rough structures of the individual links are being welded. A total of eight trams for Prague are being developed in the Pilsen production workshops. The first tram should hit the streets of Prague in April, when it will begin test runs without passengers as part of the homologation process for the new type of vehicle.
The new trams for Prague are 100% low-floor and offer greater comfort for passengers than the types of vehicles currently in operation. The interior is more spacious, with wider passages between the sections, the whole-car air conditioning uses natural ecological refrigerant. The trams are equipped with a modern information system that improves orientation during the ride. Technological solutions such as chassis with axles, electromechanical brakes and energy recovery ensure lower maintenance costs and energy consumption. Thanks to these features, the new trams will become not only an ecological but also an economically advantageous solution for urban transport.
