High-speed coverage in the metro is further expanded

From today, high-speed LTE mobile network can be newly used, in testing operation, also by passengers travelling on line C of the Prague metro, in the Muzeum – Nádraží Holešovice section. In the coming weeks, operators will still be tuning the technology according to current traffic. Customers can thus use the latest generation of mobile services in a total of 16 stations and adjacent tunnels on lines A and C of the Prague metro. Mobile operators in cooperation with the Prague City Hall, Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) and CETIN company are working intensively on further coverage of the Prague metro with the high-speed LTE network. By the end of March next year, the network will have expanded to additional 16 stations and adjacent tunnels on lines A and B. This step will cover the stations in the wider centre of the capital city, which are also the most difficult ones in terms of work. All stakeholders are doing their best to complete the full coverage of the metro with LTE network already by the end of 2021. At the same time, DPP in cooperation with mobile operators also coordinates the preparation of the new line D project so that the coverage of the new metro sections with 4G signal is already an organic part of the construction. Currently, passengers can use the 4G-standard mobile services in 16 stations and adjacent tunnels in the sections Bořislavka – Nemocnice Motol (4 stations) on line A, Muzeum – Roztyly (8 stations) on line C, and from today also in the Muzeum – Nádraží Holešovice section (4 stations). These days, the consortium of mobile network operators in cooperation with DPP continues to cover other stations and adjacent metro tunnels in the city centre. By the end of March 2020, passengers will have received the 4G-standard signal also in other 16 stations in busy sections of the Prague city centre: 6 stations on line A between Muzeum and Dejvická and 10 stations on line B between Smíchovské nádraží and Palmovka. By the end of the first quarter of next year, the 4G standard will thus have expanded to a total of 20 metro stations. Therefore, passengers will soon be able to use the high-speed LTE network in a total of 32 metro stations and adjacent tunnels, which is more than half of the entire extent of the Prague metro. To cover the entire extent of the metro with LTE network, 29 more stations and adjacent tunnels will still remain to be equipped with the latest technology. The original plan foresees the coverage of all sections with the 4G-standard signal by the end of 2022 at the latest. If the work continues at the same pace as so far, it is likely that passengers will be able to use the 4G signal in all sections of the metro already at the end of 2021.
